This project came about by accident. I did not plan to visit graveyards and photograph the art that I found in Cemeteries or Graveyards...but sometimes the best project come about by accident.
While visiting a cemetery, I was struck by the similarity between the art represented in the memorial monuments and art found in art museums, architecture, or churches. This started a multi-year adventure of me visiting graveyards far and near.
While my friends and family were supportive, I know they were shaking their heads wondering why I was heading out to another cemetery with my camera. It is my hope that you learn from my photos and research on the symbols and meaning of the art I have found in the graveyards.

I purchased my first interchangeable lens camera in 1984 when I was an intern for the Women’s Sports Foundation at the Los Angles Olympic Games. I was given access to behind the scenes where I made photos of the athletes. I have been fortunate to be able to travel and photograph many parts of the United States and locations all over the world.
Rick Sammon, a world-famous photographer and educator has a saying: "I specialize in NOT specializing". I could not agree with a statement more. I do not specialize in one type of photography because I like to explore different subjects and this may change over time.
